Hiking Trails in Graus and Surroundings from Our Holiday Cottage

It’s only been a few days since autumn arrived, but we were really looking forward to it! Autumn is a magical time in Huesca, and the surroundings of Graus come alive with warm colors and breathtaking landscapes that invite exploration. The trails in the area, such as those along the Isábena River, the ‘miradores de Graus’ (Graus’ viewpoints) route, or even the paths to the Torreciudad sanctuary, are perfect for hiking in groups or with family, and even for cycling.

And if you’re traveling with little ones or older family members, no worries! There are trails of all lengths and levels, perfect for everyone —from beginners to seasoned hikers (this one is a perfect example!). We’ll be sharing a post soon with more examples and lots of photos.

At Sidro & Co., we’ll give you the best recommendations to fully experience this autumn transformation from our holiday cottage in Graus.

Grape Harvest and Winery Tours in Somontano

Autumn is also grape harvest season, and being near the Somontano region is the perfect chance to enjoy wine tourism and everything the area has to offer. Many wineries offer guided tours where you can learn about the winemaking process and enjoy group tastings, among other activities. This is ideal for those seeking wine experiences while staying at a holiday cottage in Graus or in the area, as many wineries are just a short drive away.

Visiting one of the Somontano D.O. wineries during grape harvest season is an excellent way to complement your autumn getaway, especially if you’re traveling with friends or family who appreciate good wine and local products. This time, we recommend the Otto Bestué winery, which is close to Sidro & Co. and the Torreciudad Sanctuary (perfect for combining both visits from our holiday cottage in Graus) and offers outstanding wine tastings.

Local Gastronomy: Mushrooms and Much More

Autumn in the area is the perfect season to savor the richness of local gastronomy. Mushrooms, the undisputed stars of this time of year, are featured in delicious dishes alongside other seasonal products like chestnuts and pumpkins.

Staying at a holiday cottage near Graus allows mushroom enthusiasts to explore a paradise of forests and hidden spots rich with a variety of mushrooms. It’s definitely an ideal activity for groups or families, but always remember to respect local guidelines, the surrounding environment, and, of course, take great care when consuming the different species you collect.

But Graus, Secastilla, and the surrounding villages offer much more: you can’t leave without trying the famous longaniza sausage from Graus, the local cheeses from places like Fonz or Benabarre, or indulging in Brescó chocolates from Benabarre. Whether you choose to savor these in one of the amazing local restaurants or cook in the holiday cottage, the gastronomy of Huesca and its surroundings is a true delight for the palate.

Culture in the Graus and Secastilla Area

Graus and its surroundings offer a wide range of activities that both small groups and large families can enjoy. We’ve already mentioned the scenic autumn trails, but we can’t overlook the nearby cultural activities (a perfect option for those who prefer a more leisurely pace). These include exploring the old town of Graus, with its impressive Plaza Mayor, the Basilica of the Virgin of la Peña, and the charming Barrichós neighborhood.

But it doesn’t end there. Scattered around the area, you’ll find sites and villages that are sure to impress. Some nearby highlights include the Roman site of Labitolosa, the Torreciudad Sanctuary, and the Dag Shang Kagyu Buddhist temple. And let’s not forget other easily accessible spots like Aínsa, Roda de Isábena, and Alquézar —three of the most beautiful villages in Spain— as well as the Obarra Monastery, Benabarre Castle, and the Montfalcó walkways.
